Our TRES chicken coop was designed for approx. 10 – 20 normal-sized chickens. It is one of our medium-sized chicken coop models and is popular with private households. The TRES is also increasingly being used in agriculture. Some retirement homes already have a few TRES models in their gardens. This provides the residents with fresh eggs for breakfast and constant variety thanks to the colorful flock of chickens.
Like all our chicken coops, our TRES is designed for species-appropriate chicken husbandry . It offers plenty of light for the animals and is well ventilated. In addition, the well thought-out design with external laying nests and detachable perches offers us humans a great deal of comfort.
Our TRES chicken coop, like all our coops, is made exclusively from high-quality materials such as aluminum and sandwich panels. These panels have very high insulation values. All our coops are therefore 100% winter-proof. Finally, all HeiniCoop chicken coops are of course very easy to clean because there are no cracks for mites to hide in.
You are welcome to contact us before you buy a stable. We can also advise you by telephone.
These are some ideas of how we can design your coop.
Before we build your chicken coop, we will contact you again. At that point, we will discuss the exact position of the nesting box and the door. For example, we can move the nesting box further towards the rear if you prefer. We will also go over the placement of any additional windows in detail.
If you are unsure which coop and which variant best suits your conditions and preferences, don’t hesitate to get advice.
Port, starboard, man overboard? Are we on a ship or what?!
Of course not!
However, in the heat of the moment, misunderstandings can easily occur. Left or right—from whose perspective? The chicken’s, from the inside? Or from the outside? Then left becomes right and right becomes left. With the TRES, which is almost square, it becomes even more confusing.
For this reason, we have started using port, starboard, bow, and stern as positional references for our coops. At first, it may sound unusual, but in practice it has proven to work very well.
So please use these terms when defining the positions of doors, nesting boxes, and windows. “Can I have an additional window on the starboard side?” is, for example, a statement that cannot be misunderstood. A grateful “Arrr!” from the workshop crew.

Chicken coop for 12–20 standard-sized chickens
Our recommendation for the number of chickens refers to standard-sized breeds.
Let’s take the example of a DUO VISTA coop (designed for 12–20 standard-sized chickens):
If you keep very large breeds such as Jersey Giants or Brahmas, fewer animals will comfortably fit on the perches.
If you keep very small or even bantam chickens, more animals can fit inside the coop.
Chickens like to cuddle, but they still need space.
In winter, chickens will huddle closely together. It may look like “there’s room for more,” but don’t be misled.
Before they can huddle, they all need space to jump onto the perches. In summer, when it’s warm, they prefer more distance from each other.
Pecking order
With overcrowding, lower-ranking chickens may not get space on the perch and will have to sleep on the floor.
Too few chickens in winter
Too few chickens are also not ideal, as they heat the coop with their body warmth. For example, keeping only two silkies in a large coop may lead to it becoming too cold in winter.
Chicken Coop FAQ
How many chickens fit in the coop?
Our recommendation refers to standard-sized chickens.
Example: UNO coop (for 8–10 chickens)
Large breeds → fewer chickens
Small breeds → up to 12–14 chickens possible
Chickens cuddle but need space.
In winter, they sit very close together. It may seem like more fit, but each chicken still needs space to get onto the perch.
With overcrowding, lower-ranking chickens will be forced to sleep on the ground.
Too few chickens → less heat in winter.
Do I need a foundation?
All HeiniCoop coops are fully closed and insulated from below. A concrete foundation is not required.
However, you should place paving slabs (approx. 50×50 cm) under the feet of the coop to prevent sinking.
A slight slope towards the door is ideal for cleaning.
What customizations are possible?
Nesting box: height, division, and position adjustable
Perches: height and spacing adjustable
Windows: position and orientation customizable
Rain gutter: choose drainage side
Chicken door: position adjustable
Tip: Choose the variant that best fits your needs from the start 🙂
Shipping – how is delivery handled?
Delivery is usually done via freight carrier (curbside delivery).
CERO, UNO, TRES → unloading without extra equipment
DUO → forklift required (organized by customer)
Self pickup is possible.
Can I order custom sizes?
Unfortunately, custom dimensions are not possible.
Our coops are built using a fixed system optimized for material efficiency and shipping.
TRES Chicken Coops – High-quality, durable, built for everyday use.
These are the three core principles behind our chicken coop production.
The founder of the HeiniCoop team grew up with chickens from an early age. Since then, this passion has never left him. With around 50 years of experience with poultry of all kinds, he is a true expert in the field.
No coop leaves our workshop without final approval from the senior founder. Only a perfectly crafted coop receives the HeiniCoop badge before it begins its journey to the customer.
Over the years, he developed the first prototypes—initially for his own chickens, later for friends. He refined and improved them continuously until the ideal chicken coop was created: a HeiniCoop.
Once he was fully satisfied with the result, the former industrial hall builder began his life’s work. Since then, several additional coop models have been added to the range.
We use only the highest-quality, easy-to-clean, and long-lasting materials. That’s why you’ll enjoy your coop every single time you visit your chickens.
Expert advice and a high level of customer satisfaction are what define our service.
Your HeiniCoop team.

High-quality, durable, suitable for everyday use = quality from a specialist
HeiniCoop stands for quality from Germany
Mobile chicken coop (roll package)
With the roll package, your HeiniCoop chicken coop becomes mobile in no time at all. Castors mounted under the hutch make it easy to move the hutch to a new location in the garden or run.
This protects the soil and your chickens always have fresh grass under their feet.
Automatic chicken door
The automatic chicken door opens and closes the coop automatically - without any action on your part. A reliable control system moves the door automatically at the desired times or depending on daylight.
This makes everyday life more comfortable and increases the safety of your animals at the same time. Even if you are away for a longer period of time, the coop is reliably closed and your chickens are protected from nocturnal predators.
Additional window in the chicken coop
An additional window brings more daylight into the barn and ensures a pleasant barn climate. Chickens particularly benefit from natural light conditions as they feel more comfortable and can follow their natural rhythm.
At the same time, you get a better view into the barn. This means you can quickly check how your chickens are doing at any time without having to enter the coop.
XL door package
The XL door package gives your coop a significantly larger chicken door. This allows larger chicken breeds or several animals to enter the run at the same time.
The larger opening also makes it easier to clean the coop and access it when handling your chickens on a daily basis. This extension is a practical and convenient solution, especially for larger barns.
Light in the henhouse
With a power connection and light in the coop, you can provide your henhouse with optimum lighting at all times. This makes it easier to check on your animals - especially in the early hours of the morning or in the evening.
The lighting also allows you to take better care of the hutch, for example when cleaning or collecting the eggs. This means you always have an overview, even in poor lighting conditions.
