DUO VISTA Chicken Coop Variants:

These are some ideas for how we can design the coop for your new pets.
Before we build your chicken coop, we will get back in touch with you. Then we will talk about the exact position of the nesting box, window, and door. For example, we can push the nesting box a bit further toward the stern of the coop if you want. We will also discuss the placement of additional windows in detail.
Mobile chicken coop? No problem 🙂 Just order the HeiniCoop wheel kit for your coop as well.
If you are not sure which coop and which variant best suits your chickens and your wishes, don’t hesitate to get advice from us.

Port, starboard, man overboard?
Are we on a ship or what?!

DUO VISTA Chicken Coop No, of course not!
But in the heat of the moment, misunderstandings can occur when planning the coop. Left or right from whose perspective? The chickens’, meaning from the inside? On the other hand, you can also look at the coop from the outside. Then left becomes right and right becomes left — so it depends on the viewer. With the TRES, which is almost square, it gets even harder.
For this reason, we have started using port, starboard, bow, and stern as location terms for our chicken coops. It seems odd at first, but has proven itself in practice.
Please stick to these terms when clarifying the positions of doors, nesting boxes, and windows. “Can I get another window on starboard?” is, for example, a statement that cannot be misunderstood. A grateful “Arr Arr” from the workshop crew.

Questions and Answers:

How many chickens fit in the coop?

Our recommendation for how many chickens fit in the coop refers to normal-sized chickens.
Let’s look at this using the example of a DUO VISTA chicken coop (built for 12–20 normal-sized chickens):

If you want to keep very large breeds such as Jersey Giants or Brahmas in your coop,
it goes without saying that fewer animals will comfortably fit on the perches.
On the other hand, if you have very small chickens or even bantams, a few more animals
can find space in a DUO chicken house.

Chickens like to cuddle, but they also need space in the coop.

In winter, the chickens all sleep huddled close together. This gives the impression:
“A few more would fit on the perch,” but don’t let that fool you.

Because before they cuddle up in such a pile, they all have to hop onto the perch first
and they need space to do that. You will also see that in summer,
when it is very warm, they don’t really like close body contact with their fellow chickens.

Pecking order in the coop

Furthermore, if the coop is too crowded, the lower-ranking animals will not get a spot on the perch
and will have to sleep on the floor.

Too few chickens in winter

But too few chickens in a coop is also not ideal, because the chickens heat the coop with their body warmth. Keeping “only” 2 silkies in a UNO would not make sense, because it could get quite chilly in winter. Keep in mind, the coop is very well insulated but not heated – the chickens themselves are the heating. Chickens generally have few problems with cold in the coop, as long as the bedding is not damp and no draft whistles through the coop. Your chickens will definitely be grateful for a slightly thicker layer of bedding in winter.

Chicken Coop Questions
How many chickens fit in the coop?
Our recommendation for how many chickens fit in the coop refers to normal-sized chickens. Let’s look at this using the example of a UNO chicken coop (built for 8-10 normal-sized chickens): If you want to keep very large breeds such as Jersey Giants or Brahmas in your coop, it goes without saying that you’d only fit 10 on the perches with a lot of squeezing and a shoehorn. On the other hand, if you have very small chickens or even bantams, 12-14 chickens can find space in a UNO chicken house.Chickens like to cuddle, but they also need space in the coop

In winter, the chickens all sleep huddled close together. This gives the impression “5 more would fit on the perch”, but don’t let that fool you. Because before they cuddle up in such a pile, they all have to hop onto the perch first and they need space to do that. You will also see that in summer, when it is very warm, they don’t really like close body contact with their fellow chickens.

Pecking order in the coop

Furthermore, if the coop is too crowded, the lower-ranking animals will not get a spot on the perch and will have to sleep on the floor, because the higher-ranking ones won’t let them up or peck them off the perch again. This results in them being pooped on at night by their fellow chickens sitting above them.

Do you need a foundation for HeiniCoop chicken coops?
Every HeiniCoop chicken coop is completely closed and well insulated from below. A foundation for the coop is not necessary. So you don’t need a concrete base slab to protect against rats and mice from below, like with most wooden coops. Foxes also have no chance of digging through the floor into your HeiniCoop. But simply placing the chicken house in the run is not a good idea, since depending on the ground it would gradually sink in over time. At the hardware store you can get 50 x 50 cm concrete paving slabs. On Amazon you can even buy nice casting molds for such slabs. A small slab foundation like this is more than sufficient for HeiniCoop chicken houses. These should be placed under the feet of the coop so that the coop cannot sink into the ground.

If the run on which your coop is standing has a slope, you can compensate for this by stacking several slabs. Overall, a slight slope toward the door of the coop is desirable, so that you can more easily push the water out toward the door with a squeegee when cleaning the coop.

More tips for your chicken coop:
Especially in front of the entrance areas – meaning the nesting box, your entrance door, and the chicken hatch – it can get muddy in winter during long rainy periods. For this reason, you should at least lay some of these slabs where you want to walk.

Which free customizations are possible?
Nesting box adjustments during coop construction
The height and division of the nesting boxes can be selected when ordering. This is best based on the breed of chickens you want to keep. Particularly heavy chickens don’t like perches and nesting boxes that are too high, which is why individual adjustments are necessary here.In addition, we can also shift the nesting box horizontally on request. However, care must be taken that the nest does not conflict with the aluminum skeleton inside. The nesting box should also not be pushed too close to the perches. This encourages some hens to sleep in the cozy bedding of the nest instead of on the perch –> chicken poop in the nesting box –> bedding and eggs are dirty.

Perch adjustments during coop construction
The height of the perches can be selected when ordering. If you want to keep a very large chicken breed such as Jerseys or Brahmas, we can move the perches a little further into the room on most coop models, so that the thick, fluffy backsides of these chickens don’t drag against the wall of the coop –> chicken poop on the wall

For the UNO with extremely large breeds, you should consider installing only one perch, so that the chickens have more space behind them on the perches.

Window adjustments during coop construction
We can also adjust the exact height of the windows from the outer floor to your wishes. We can also rotate the windows by 90 degrees (portrait / landscape) and reposition them, if the layout of the coop allows it. A lower-positioned window is especially useful for children to look into the coop.

Gutter adjustments during coop construction
The gutter with the water drain runs along the stern of the coop. When ordering, you can already choose on which side of your coop the water drain should be installed. You can then, for example, place a barrel for collecting water in the run, from which your chickens can drink.

Chicken door adjustments during coop construction
The chicken hatch leading to the run can also be moved a little. Of course, conflicts with the inner skeleton of the coop must be considered again. If you really want, we can also install the chicken door in the wall where the perches are. However, this has the disadvantage that the chickens have to constantly walk through their own piles when they want to go outside into the run. This solution should therefore only be considered as a last resort.

If you don’t want an automatic door, you can also choose whether the hinges of the chicken door to the run should be on the left or right when viewed from outside.

Note

Many of our chicken coops and aviaries are offered in different variants. When ordering, please try to choose the chicken house variant that comes closest to your wishes. So if you want a pizza funghi without mushrooms, you should perhaps just order a margherita 🙂 That makes life easier for everyone involved.

Coop shipping – How is my chicken house delivered?
Normally our coops are shipped via truck freight. The chicken house is delivered to you up to the curb. You are responsible for further transport through the garden to the run.Coop shipping for CERO, UNO & TRES

For CERO, UNO, and TRES coop models, no aids are needed for unloading. The driver unloads via the lift gate and then either rolls your coop on its own wheels (as a mobile coop with the wheel kit) or moves it onto your property using a pallet jack. (Solid ground)

Coop shipping for DUO models
For DUO coop models, a forklift or front loader is needed for unloading! This must be organized on-site by the customer, otherwise the freight costs would be far too high. A farmer from your village will surely help you unload your coop much more cheaply.
Self-pickup of the chicken house

When picking up your coop or aviary yourself, we can lift your coop onto your trailer with our forklift, but for liability reasons we are not allowed to help with strapping or securing the load. Theoretically it would even be smarter for us not to be present at all when the load is being secured. If we noticed any violations of load securing, we would even have to prevent you from leaving the yard, in order to be free of liability.

Can I buy the coop taller or wider?
Unfortunately, the coop size cannot be made taller or wider. Our coops are designed according to a fixed system that minimizes waste in the aluminum tubes and sandwich panels. Even a small change in the outer dimensions brings a whole chain of problems and significantly more material waste. The prices from the freight companies we work with are also tailored to our standard dimensions. Therefore, we unfortunately cannot adjust the outer dimensions of our coops to the wishes of every customer.

Since then, this wonderful hobby has never let him go. He has about 50 years of experience with chickens of every breed and is a leading authority in the field.
None of our coops leave production before being inspected by the senior boss. Only a perfectly crafted coop receives his HeiniCoop seal before it sets off on the journey to the customer.
Over the years, he first developed the first chicken house prototypes for his own chickens, and later for friends. He experimented and improved until the optimal chicken coop was born. A HeiniCoop. When he was finally satisfied with the result, the former industrial hall builder began his new life’s work. Since then, several new chicken coop models have been added to the range.

High-quality, durable, suitable for everyday use = quality from a specialist

HeiniCoop stands for quality from Germany

Mobile chicken coop (roll package)

With the roll package, your HeiniCoop chicken coop becomes mobile in no time at all. Castors mounted under the hutch make it easy to move the hutch to a new location in the garden or run.

This protects the soil and your chickens always have fresh grass under their feet.

Automatic chicken door

The automatic chicken door opens and closes the coop automatically - without any action on your part. A reliable control system moves the door automatically at the desired times or depending on daylight.

This makes everyday life more comfortable and increases the safety of your animals at the same time. Even if you are away for a longer period of time, the coop is reliably closed and your chickens are protected from nocturnal predators.

Additional window in the chicken coop

An additional window brings more daylight into the barn and ensures a pleasant barn climate. Chickens particularly benefit from natural light conditions as they feel more comfortable and can follow their natural rhythm.

At the same time, you get a better view into the barn. This means you can quickly check how your chickens are doing at any time without having to enter the coop.

XL door package

The XL door package gives your coop a significantly larger chicken door. This allows larger chicken breeds or several animals to enter the run at the same time.

The larger opening also makes it easier to clean the coop and access it when handling your chickens on a daily basis. This extension is a practical and convenient solution, especially for larger barns.

Light in the henhouse

With a power connection and light in the coop, you can provide your henhouse with optimum lighting at all times. This makes it easier to check on your animals - especially in the early hours of the morning or in the evening.

The lighting also allows you to take better care of the hutch, for example when cleaning or collecting the eggs. This means you always have an overview, even in poor lighting conditions.
