Bird of prey net 16m
Bird of prey net for chickens | 80 mm mesh width | 16 m width
Goshawks, kites and other birds of prey are among the greatest dangers for chickens – even in urban areas.
This robust polyethylene bird of prey net provides reliable protection for your chicken run from above.
The generous mesh size ensures that leaves and snow fall through easily, while large birds of prey no longer have access to your poultry.

Polyethylene Bird of Prey Net | 80 mm Mesh Size | 16 m Width (sold by the meter)
Smaller and medium-sized chicken breeds in particular are typical prey for native birds of prey in Germany such as hawks, kites, and other falcon species. Even chicken keepers in urban or suburban areas are not safe from this issue. Therefore, in many cases, it is advisable to protect the chicken enclosure from above with a net.
Dimensions
The net has a running width of 16 meters and can easily be cut to size with scissors without unraveling. When ordering one meter, you will receive a piece of net measuring 1 m in length and 16 m in width when optimally stretched. Simply enter the desired length in meters in the order form.
Material
The protective net has a mesh size of 8 cm. This allows most leaves to fall through the relatively large openings in autumn. Snow load in winter also remains manageable due to the large mesh size. Nets with smaller mesh sizes can quickly become very heavy, for example during freezing rain, and may collapse. Thanks to the large mesh size, smaller songbirds can pass through without getting tangled, while larger birds of prey such as hawks are kept out.
The net is made from 1.2 mm thick, highly durable polyethylene twine—a material that cannot be torn apart by hand under normal conditions. Despite its strength, it is visually unobtrusive when installed and barely noticeable due to its black color.
Rhombic Mesh Structure
The braided structure with rhombic meshes offers several key advantages when building your chicken run. Nets with rhombic meshes can be stretched up to 1.4 times their original length. When pulled in one direction, the net becomes longer in that direction while narrowing in the other. In contrast, nets with a square mesh structure behave more rigidly when tensioned, as they are not stretchable. The difference can best be compared to a knitted sweater versus a shirt: when pressing a finger from inside, the sweater will form a cone shape around it, while the shirt will simply wrinkle.
Installation
Beginners who have never installed a bird protection net should first spread the net out to the desired size before installation and roughly cut it if necessary. Do not cut too tightly—any excess material can be trimmed later.
IMPORTANT: Your net will be delivered fully stretched in a “sausage-like” form. For example, if you order 5 m of netting, this bundle will be approximately 7.5 m long. Once you spread and stretch the net to its full 16 m width, the length will reduce to the ordered 5 m. When optimally stretched, the mesh appears almost square. If you stretch the net only to 14 m width, the mesh becomes more diamond-shaped and the net slightly longer. If you stretch it to 18 m width, the net becomes slightly shorter.
Next, thread an 8 mm thick braided rope (also available in our shop) through one side of the net. Attach this prepared side to one side of the enclosure. In our experience, cable ties work very well to connect the rope to the fence. Continue this process side by side until the entire enclosure is covered. Finally, trim any excess material with scissors. For larger enclosures with additional supports, it is advisable to install ropes between the supports beneath the net.
